I'm a blue-collar brother and can't get the time of day from the Sistas out here. They won't even speak to me in the elevator. Is it just me or is there some new dynamic going on where the sista's have decided they are too good for anyone who has not attained their same level of success.
It's not so much about being materialistic as realistic. Most women today have degree's, houses, cars and salaries that match or overshadow men's salaries. Therefore, we want men who have their **** together too. Our circumstances have caused us to look higher than the blue collar worker. We want a professional man with a good paying job who can bring something substantial to the table, to not just match what we bring but to bring even more. Sorry, blue collared men. You just don't cut it with Sistas like me who already have everything and don't NEED a man. We just want a man and we want one we can take anywhere and be proud to introduce as Attorney so and so, Doctor so and so or CEO so and so.
I don't think all women are materialistic. However, there are a few out there who seem to hold the GOLDEN key. I have to say that I have been happily married for eight years now but back in the day, my priorities were somewhat different. Not saying it was all about the "Benjamins" but wanted and looked for more from a "Brotha" than an outdated "Rap". Now my priorities are more realistic. When I met my husband, he didn't have all those things I tend to look for from other brothas. However, his personality, charm, values, morals and hardworking demeanor changed all of that. WE worked together to accomplish goals and today we are both successful. The irony of the story......Women must look on the inside before they begin to judge what's on the outside.
I am of the opinion that most women today are too materialistic, and straight out gold diggers, and some of them don't even know it. Today there is little concern about how a man looks, or what kind of person he is. For many women the main focus being, is he a cash cow? The standard comment is I want a man to take care of me. In the past that would mean love, respect, care, support, protection etc. Today that means lavish gifts, take me out, shopping, pay my bills and dont say no when I ask you for anything oh, and shopping again. Now I understand a woman needs the basic necessities of life especially if she is a parent or guardian and most men are fine with that. But, there are some exceptions, women who look into the character of a man instead of into his pockets. But you have many who is ready to throw a fit and talk about breaking of a relationship if they do not get that expensive gift on a holiday or special occasion, so they can brag to their girlfriends, thats being materialistic. Then you have these women who wont give a guy the time of day unless they know for certain he has a good paying job or the prospect of his future look bright thats goal digging.Then they complain I cant find a good man or these men today are trifling. I am not saying lower your standards I am saying change your priorities.
There are so many materialist women who are focused on the wrong things. They will overlook a good hard working man who love them because he does not have the finances to support her lifestyle. I know this is true because I work with a few a them. Just because a man is not where they want him to be at that point in his life (financially), does not mean he will never get there. Yes, sistas have degrees, their own homes, cars, and maybe a fat bank account. However, what is all that when you do not have anyone meaningful in your life to share it with. I know there are women who say they Do Not Need a Man, but I have news for them. You Do! Men need women and women need men. That is why God created both male and female.
